Florian presenting at the GeoScience & GeoEnergy Webinar Series
I am excited and honored to present at the GeoScience & GeoEnergy Webinar Series on Thursday 21/10/2021 at 3pm BST: Florian Doster, Heriot-Watt University (Reservoir Simulation) – YouTube
New Paper published
Not often, the work in an MSc project gets published. Well done Martin Verdugo to get “Impact of capillary pressure and flowback design on the clean up and productivity of hydraulically fractured tight gas wells” published in theJournal of Petroleum Science and Engineering. In this paper we investigated how capillary forces distribute the fracturing fluid […]
Inaugural Lecture
I am very happy and proud to share the invite for my inaugural lecture on the 27th of October. It will be online, so while there will be no reception the upside is that you can join without having to travel to Edinburgh: Challenges (and some solutions) of Modelling Subsurface Flow Tickets, Wed 27 Oct 2021 […]
Amanzhol Kubeyev successfully defended his PhD thesis
On 10/06/21, Amanzhol Kubeyev successfully defended his PhD thesis “Development of computational modelling methods for solid and fluid mechanics in rough fractures and application for stress-permeability relationship”. Congratulations, Dr. Kubeyev. Well deserved! Let me take this opportunity to thank Prof Christopher McDermott (University of Edinburgh) and Dr Sabine den Hartog (Heriot-Watt University) for scrutinizing his […]
MSc Subsurface Energy Systems
The last exams for the first cohort of our new MSc Subsurface Energy Systems at Heriot-Watt University are marked. The students are currently teaming up and apply their new knowledge to plan a field development for a #CCS project before finishing with dissertations on #geoenergy for the #energytransition. I would like to take the opportunity […]
Mark Ashworth successfully defended his PhD thesis
Just before Christmas, on 21/12/20, Mark Ashworth successfully defended his PhD thesis “Multiscale dual-continuum modelling of deformable porous media” Congratulations, Dr. Ashworth. Well deserved! Thank you also to Dr Matteo Icardi (University of Nottingham) and Dr Jingsheng Ma (Heriot-Watt University) for scrutinizing his work and Prof Sebastian Geiger for the co-supervision.
PhD opportunities
The GeoNetZero CDT offers 14 fully funded PhD positions (4 years) available for UK citizens. Together with Andreas Busch (geoenergy.hw.ac.uk), I am looking for a motivated candidate who isn’t afraid of bridging the boundaries between lab work, field work and modelling for the project Evaluation of fault leakage rates in the context of subsurface hydrogen […]
DETECT Project Dissemination Workshop
In form of a virtual workshop, we will present and discuss our findings of the ACT funded DETECT project on leakage risk of CO2 through the damage zone of faults. on the 1st of December. Registration is free https://lnkd.in/dPJYnfU
MRST Fracture Module for simulating multi-phase flow in fractured porous media using single- and multi-continuum concepts
Christine Maier’s and Rafael March’s module for the MATLAB Reservoir Simulation Toolbox to simulate multi-phase flow in fractured porous media in a unified framework for implicit and explicit fracture representations is now released on the bitbucket site of the carbonates group. Great collaboration!
